Advanced Training Workshop on Image Guided Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Yashoda
Yashoda Cancer Institute (YCI), Somajiguda has conducted its
second advanced training workshop on Rapid Arc-based Image Guided Stereotactic
Radiosurgery or Intensity Modulated Radio Surgery (IMRS).
Dr GS Rao, Managing Director of Yashoda Group of Hospitals
inaugurated this advanced training workshop. "YCI is not only determined
to give advanced treatment to its patients, but also constantly striving to
train oncologists all over the country, who have no training facilities or are
working in less advanced setups. The workshop was attended by more than 60 oncologists
from all over the country and was primarily aimed at training them on high precision
radio therapy.
YCI has already treated more than 300 patients with RapidArc
technology. The hospital has recently acquired advanced software for image guided
and IMRS. This technology is available in very few centers in the world, thereby
making it immensely beneficial to the patients.
"With predicted cancer incidence expected to be doubled
by year 2020, the impact of the shortfall of high-end radiation therapy technology
is huge as more than 75 per cent of all patients with cancer require radiation.
Also for several early solid cancers, radiation therapy gives equivalent survival
and cure rates compared to surgery," said Dr Srinivas Chilukuri, oncologist
and Course Co-ordinator.
The radio surgery is completely non-invasive, painless and
does not require anaesthesia or hospitalisation. It's a day care procedure.
With RapidArc, the same can be achieved rapidly compared to other kinds of radiation
therapy.
