Abbott announced the launch of its TECNIS Symfony Extended Range of Vision IOL in India. It is a presbyopia-correcting lens designed to reduce the need for spectacles and provide a significant advancement over traditional IOL technologies. The lens is designed to increase the distance over which an object appears in focus across a continuous range of distances, without sacrificing a person’s visual clarity or contrast.

As people age, the inability to focus and see clearly is a major challenge. Constantly handling glasses can be cumbersome. The Symfony IOL now offers vision correction for life. Post cataract surgery, patients have reported getting back vision which mimics the vision they had in their youth,” said Dr Ramamurthy, Chairman, The Eye Foundation, Coimbatore.

The people who come to us for cataract surgery are mostly in their 50s and 60s. They still have an active lifestyle, drive regularly, use computers every day and rely on mobile devices. For them, this technology provides better clarity at near, intermediate and far distances, without having to wear spectacles.” said Dr Sri Ganesh, Chairman & MD, Nethradhama Super Speciality Hospital, Bengaluru.

Abbott is focused on developing new technologies that can provide people with clear vision at all distances. With TECNIS Symfony IOL, people with cataracts can regain good functional vision that gives them the confidence to maintain active, healthy lifestyles. Driving at night, watching television, using a smart phone or a computer and enhanced independence from eyeglasses are some of the benefits that people appreciate”, said Burzin Shahana, Country Manager of Abbott’s Medical Optics business in India.

TECNIS Symfony Extended Range of Vision IOL is now available across major cities and towns in India.
