Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh to offer PG diploma in Cardiology in collaboration with Middlesex University, UK
In its endeavour to enhance the quality of medical education and training, Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh will now offer a PG Diploma in Cardiology in collaboration with Middlesex University, United Kingdom. This one-year programme will offer world-class training in Clinical Cardiology to medical graduates.
Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh is the only nodal centre in India to offer this course. A team of eminent cardiologists led by Dr J C Mohan, Director of Cardiology, will teach and train the students. He is the first Indian to be nominated as Honorary Fellow to the American Society of Echocardiography.
Elaborating on this initiative, Dr Mohan,“This course will cover advances and clinical practices in cardiology and will equip doctors, wanting to specialise in cardiac sciences, with knowledge and training at par with top international standards.”
Eligibility criteria for this course include MBBS, MD (Medicine) or MD (Paediatrics). The course is based on curriculum that is quality assured by Middlesex University and will train doctors in a range of topics including performing and interpreting the results of non-invasive cardiac procedures like ECG and ECHO and clinical detection of cardiac failure, arrhythmias and other conditions. The course will also consist of counselling for cardiac patients, hands-on training and interaction with fellow students in the UK.
The PG Diploma in Cardiology will prepare doctors to practise as community cardiologists at primary and secondary care centres. These doctors can also be employed as attending cardiologists in tertiary care centres under the supervision of a consultant or can work in cath labs. The first batch of the course started on November 22, 2013.
