Genes2Me delivers 2.5 lakh rapid test kits to Govt to fight COVID-19

The test kit not only indicates recent exposure of individual to COVID-19 but also can provide information on stage of infection as well as ruling out negative – positive results

In a bid to expedite and strengthen India’s fight against the novel Coronavirus, Genes2Me successfully delivered 2.5 lakh COVID-19 IgG/IgM Antibody Rapid tests kits in a record time of seven days. This came right after the company received a supply order from the Indian Government.

Genes2Me collaborated with Zhuhai Livzon Diagnostics Inc, China that has developed COVID-19 IgG/IgM Antibody Rapid tests, which is CE-IVD, NMPA and ICMR approved. The test can deliver separate results for IgG and IgM antibody. This test kit not only indicates a recent exposure of an individual to COVID-19 but also can provide information on the stage of infection as well as ruling out negative – positive results. No special equipment is required to run this test, it is very easy to use and delivers result in 15 minutes with a specificity of 99 per cent.

The first antibody test in China for COVID-19 was launched by Wuhan Institute of Virology and Livzon Dx in January 2020. Genes2Me recently received approval from DCGI for the sales and marketing of these kits in India and has already supplied 2.5 lakh test kits to the Indian Government and AIIMS. 

The company is aggressively working towards making the test kits available in large quantities in India, enabling rapid detection of the coronavirus. Around 5-6 lakh more test kits would be available by next week. Additionally, the company is also working around the availability of more than three million test kits by the month of May.

As per instructions from DCGI, the test kits shall be used as per the guidelines set by ICMR and GoI with regards to COVID testing.
