There is a dire need to strengthen the clinical and health systems, at a time when healthcare workers are vehemently putting their health at risk due to severe shortage of specialised gears. Many hospitals and specialised centres are raising awareness about this so that their doctors, nurses, and other frontline workers are not dangerously ill-equipped to care for COVID-19 patients.

Parle Agro’s Prakash Jyantilal Chauhan Foundation (PJC Foundation) responded to the significant needs of one such hospital- LTMG Hospital, Sion Mumbai by providing them with 3000 PPE kits-masks, full body suits, gloves, sanitisers.

The municipal run hospital was facing a grave shortage of personal protective equipment for their Social Service Department staff who were dealing with the treatment of poor and needy patients coming from the slums of Mumbai and beyond Maharashtra. The medical team is consistently in close proximity to these patients within and outside of the hospital. Apart from that, the medical staff is also regularly screening passengers at the airport without any special protection gear creating a barrier. Despite having special wards, contact with such patients is inevitable. The hospital was organising various efforts to procure critical medical supplies for their workers who need them the most. PJC Foundation has aided the same providing much relief to the hospital, who can now minimise exposure and maintain a safe and healthy environment around.

Commenting on the situation, Alisha Chauhan Director, Parle Agro, Head, PJC Foundation said, “Caring for our community has always been a priority. And right now, nothing takes more precedence than ensuring the safety of our first responders who are contributing towards saving lives. A large number of health care staff at LTMG Hospital is dispersed across the city screening COVID-19 patients and caring for them. The resources will help them focus on their work without worrying about the infection. These PPE kits will be delivered to the hospital through our vendor towards the promotion of health care.”

Commenting on the support, Dr Mohan Joshi, Dean, LTMG Hospital said, “We are happy to receive the positive response and the supply of PPE kits from the foundation of Parle Agro which will help and protect our medical team and staff from being infected by the coronavirus. We thank the team at Parle Agro and appreciate their support.”
