IMC’s conference highlights the importance of ‘Health and Wellness at Workplaces’

Ergonomics, wellness at work, changing face of workplace, work force and their wellness expectations, physical wellness and staying fit at work, and mental health and wellness were among the key topics covered at the conference

The IMC’s Health and Fitness Committee held its conference on ‘Health, Wellness and Workplaces’ – Recalibrating Workplaces with Wellness Strategy to bring together all stakeholders in corporate India’s wellness to chart the way forward.

Ergonomics, wellness at work, changing face of workplace, work force and their wellness expectations, physical wellness and staying fit at work, and mental health and wellness were among the key topics covered at the conference.

The conference was divided into sessions led by Koushik Bhattacharjee, Head of Employee benefits and wellness, Deutsche Bank, N. Santhanam, CEO, Breach Candy Hospital Trust, Dr Raja Sriswan Mamidi Scientist-D ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition, DHR, MoHFW, Dr Manjit Kaur Chauhan Associate Professor & Head of the Resource Management Department, SNDT Women’s University among many other eminent speakers. Anant Singhania, President, IMC, Ajit Mangrulkar, Director General, IMC, Sanjay Mehta, Deputy Director General, IMC, Sheetal Kalro, Deputy Director General, IMC, Sanjaya Mariwala, Chairman, Health & Fitness Committee, IMC were present among other key dignitaries from the chamber.

Chief Guest, Sanjay Khandare, Principal Secretary-1, Public Health Department & Commissioner (Health Services) & MD(NHM), Government of Maharashtra said during his keynote speech at the event, “In today’s context, the conference theme of “recalibrating workplaces with wellness strategy” is very appropriate. It is encouraging to see a historic organisation like the IMC taking the lead in addressing current and future issues in the best interests of all members. The topic of workplace health and wellness is extremely relevant in today’s world. Maharashtra has one of the highest concentrations of corporates in India, so a healthy workforce and healthy management are critical to the health of our economy. Understanding what factors positively contribute to employee well-being and what factors negatively contribute to employee well-being is critical to ensuring an organisation’s success.”

Singhania said, “Knowing your employees and understanding that everyone has a different lifestyle outside of work is essential for a healthy workplace. This is critical to the conference topic this year, as we examine the relationship between employees’ health outside of work and how it relates to their job. The Maharashtra government has also implied various initiatives in the health sector, such as Ayushman Bharat, Health and Wellness Centers, and is actively working towards a healthier workforce.”

Mariwala said, “Pandemic has brought about rapid change in the workplace culture, rules & regulations with respect to leaves, employee benefits, and stress level management. Health has now become a priority, and corporates should consider withdrawing leave counts or compensation and instead encourage employees to take time off for rejuvenation, contributing towards an increase in their productivity and keeping them more engaged. Informative discussions surrounding healthcare and nutrition must be encouraged, adding value to the health and wellness initiatives at the workplace.”
