SPARSH Hospitals launch India’s first on-site advanced 3D printing lab

SPARSH Hospitals has introduced India’s first on-site advanced 3D printing lab at its Infantry Road facility. The new lab offers 3D printing solutions for orthopaedic and personalised medical care, providing all services under one roof, from scanning to creating final customised models.

Dr Sharan Shivaraj Patil, Chairman and Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon at SPARSH Hospitals, inaugurated the lab and highlighted its significance. “We have always been at the forefront of innovation, and are committed to bringing the most advanced technologies in orthopaedics available internationally. Today marks another milestone in our ‘Authority on Orthopaedic’ mission,” he said. He added that the lab would enable the design of custom-made prosthetics, implants, and surgical models tailored to each patient’s anatomy.

The integration of 3D printing technology with advanced robotics allows surgeons to perform procedures with greater precision and accuracy. Dr Patil stated, “With the adoption of both 3D printing and robotic technologies, we will be setting new standards for surgical precision and patient outcomes.” He explained that this would result in shorter recovery times and lower healthcare costs in the long term.

During a press conference, Dr Patil showcased the new lab, emphasising how these technologies are transforming the capabilities of orthopaedic surgeries. He noted, “These two technologies, 3D printing and robotics, are advancing the capabilities of orthopaedic surgeries and beyond. They enable greater precision in planning and executing complex procedures, resulting in better outcomes for patients, faster recovery, and a significant step forward in personalised healthcare.”

The hospital also demonstrated its 3D printing technology using a virtual reality system and showcased advanced robotic systems as part of its ongoing investment in cutting-edge healthcare technologies.

Dr Patil highlighted the benefits for surgeons, noting that detailed anatomical models created before surgery enhance pre-surgical planning and reduce surgical time. “For young surgeons, this lab will be an incredible tool for hands-on training, offering unparalleled learning opportunities,” he said.

SPARSH Hospitals’ 3D printing lab is also exploring future innovations, including the creation of artificial organs, with potential applications in medical research and bioengineering. The hospital’s investment in these technologies positions it to lead in both orthopaedic care and personalised medical treatments.
