A multidisciplinary fatty liver clinic has been launched at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre in Mumbai. Opened on November 23, the clinic focuses on Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), a condition affecting nearly one-third of India’s population.

The clinic addresses the need for integrated care for MASLD, which is often associated with metabolic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Historically, patients have had to navigate fragmented care systems, consulting multiple specialists in different locations. The new clinic brings together hepatologists, physicians, nutritionists, psychologists, physiotherapists, bariatric surgeons, and a dedicated coordinator to streamline patient care.

The multidisciplinary team is led by Dr Aabha Nagral and includes Dr Ajay Jhaveri, Dr Shaival Chandalia, Dr Shruti Tandan, Dr Vigyan Jain, Dr Sadashiv Chaudhari, Dr Geeta Makhija, Dr Shreyas Katharani, Dr Manek Kutar, Dr Reena Javkar, Ishitaa Mehta, Sonal Chandalia, Ritika Aggarwal, Tanya Raj, and Sukhada Thorat. This coordinated effort ensures efficient care and reduces patient burden.

Dr Aabha Nagral, Director of Gastroenterology, Chief Hepatologist, and Liver Transplant Physician at Jaslok Hospital, said, “The response to the clinic’s launch has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve already seen numerous patients benefit from our integrated approach, which minimizes redundant testing, reduces travel burden, and addresses potential drug interactions. This model is truly transforming how we manage this complex disease.”

The clinic offers personalised treatment plans focusing on lifestyle modifications and medication management to prevent MASLD progression to conditions such as cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Dr Milind Khadke, Medical Director at Jaslok Hospital, commented, “We are incredibly proud to offer this much-needed service to the community. The early success of the clinic reinforces our belief that integrated, patient-centric care is the key to effectively combating the fatty liver epidemic and improving patient outcomes.”

The clinic is now open to new patients, encouraging those concerned about fatty liver disease to seek a consultation.
