P. D. Hinduja Hospital hosts conclave on safety and sustainability in healthcare

Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research Centre, in partnership with the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO) and the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH), organised a one-day Quality and Safety Conclave in Mumbai. Themed “Ensuring Safety & Sustainability in Healthcare,” the event brought together healthcare professionals, industry leaders, and academicians to address critical challenges and explore solutions shaping the healthcare sector.

The discussions focused on improving patient safety, advancing sustainability practices, and leveraging technology to drive transformation in healthcare. Representatives from diverse fields shared insights and best practices adopted to achieve these goals.

Gautam Khanna, CEO of P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre, highlighted the importance of integrating safety and sustainability in healthcare. He stated, “Healthcare’s future hinges on our ability to seamlessly integrate safety and sustainability into every aspect of patient care. This conference represents a crucial step forward, bringing together leading minds to develop practical solutions that enhance patient outcomes while minimising our environmental footprint. Besides discussing innovative ideas, we are laying the groundwork for transformative change in healthcare delivery.”

Joy Chakraborty, COO of P. D. Hinduja Hospital, underlined the need for a dual focus on patient care and environmental responsibility. He remarked, “Today’s healthcare landscape demands a dual focus: excellence in patient care and environmental responsibility. Through this conference, we aim to create a blueprint for healthcare institutions to achieve both objectives. By bringing together experts from diverse fields, we are fostering innovations that will shape the future of sustainable healthcare delivery while maintaining the highest standards of safety.”

Dr Lallu Joseph, Secretary General of CAHO, outlined CAHO’s commitment to sustainability in Indian healthcare. She said, “CAHO is championing a holistic approach to sustainability in Indian healthcare, encompassing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. To drive this mission, CAHO is conducting masterclasses and training programmes across India, engaging hospitals and their value chains in major cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. CAHO extends special thanks to P. D. Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai for collaborating on this programme focused on Ensuring Safety & Sustainability in Healthcare.”

The conclave featured sessions on topics such as diagnosis for patient safety, ESG integration in healthcare, and the role of technology in safety and sustainability. Industry leaders, including Dr Harsh Mahajan of Mahajan Imaging & Labs, Dr Anirudh Kohli of Breach Candy Hospital, and Dr Aparna Jairam of Asavlee – Dr Aparna’s Path Lab, shared their experiences and insights.

The event concluded with a Leadership Talk moderated by Joy Chakraborty. The panel included Dr S. Narayani of Fortis Healthcare, Lt. Col. Dr L C Verma of Godrej Memorial Hospital, Dr Avinash Supe of P. D. Hinduja Hospital, and Alok Vijayvergiya, Group Chief Sustainability Officer of Hinduja Group. Discussions centred on strategies for improving healthcare efficiency, workforce management, and infrastructure challenges, with an emphasis on a patient-centric approach to enhance outcomes and sustainability.

The conclave marked a significant step towards creating actionable frameworks for safety and sustainability in India’s healthcare sector.
