Representatives of renowned healthcare institutions came together to share their successes and best practices

The first CAHO conference CAHOCON 2015 was held on 24-25 April in New Delhi. It was very well-attended, with over 200 delegates representing institutions from all over the country. Accredited and non-accredited institutions came together on a national platform to share their successes and best practices.

The delegates were welcomed by Dr Alexander Thomas, the President of CAHO. There were separate parallel sessions for the laboratory and hospital participants. Delegates were addressed by luminaries in healthcare sector such as Dr Devi Shetty, Dr Somil Nagpal and Dr Girdhar Gyani, among others. They spoke about the crises faced by the healthcare sector and on solutions developed, such as the entry-level standards as a step towards complete accreditation, which will change the way healthcare is delivered in India. Several participants especially appreciated that the Secretary-General of the QCI and the CEOs of the NABH and NABL used their common platform to speak of ground realities. Reportedly, conference delegates were given the chance to directly interact with the CEOs of NABH and NABL at a special session.

The launch of an e-learning course in healthcare communication also took place at CAHOCON 2015 in partnership with Wolters Kluwer India. It created much interest around the issue of communication in the hospital setting, and the delegates were eager to try out the sample chapters available.

The conference ended with a session on the way forward for CAHO, with the members resolving that there should be a sharper focus on grassroots activities, especially those to promote and encourage the attainment of entry-level standards for accreditation.
