BCCI has a new Vice President

Dr Alok Roy, Chairman, Medica Superspecialty Hospital, was unanimously elected as the Senior Vice-President of Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) at the institution’s 158th Annual General Meeting held at its headquarters in Kolkata on September 28, 2012. This is the first time that an individual from the healthcare industry has been elected for this post.

This prestigious institution is a chamber of commerce based in West Bengal, India. Established in 1853, it is the oldest such institution in India, replacing the former Calcutta Chamber of Commerce, which was merged into the new organisation.

The Chamber’s vision is to be the most valued partner of commerce, industry, academia, professionals and governments for achieving responsible economic growth as well as accomplishing their societal and environmental needs. The organisation has its headquarters at the former Royal Exchange in BBD Bagh, Kolkata, which was once the residence of Robert Clive, the first Governor-General of India.

The members include corporations and industries of all sizes, professionals, divisions of large multinational corporations and service industry organisations. Dr Roy brings with him his vast experience in building and running healthcare units, and BCCI stands to gain immensely by his wisdom and knowledge.
