Video games are the latest tool being used to provide better disease management (DM) to patients who are not able to adhere to their treatment schedules. DM company Kartavya Healtheon is in the process of getting a cancer game to India and distributing these games free of cost to patients. The game is targeted at teens but can be used by other age group as well.
Kartavya will be providing health games primarily for cancer patients with a focus on teenage cancer patients. The objective is to provide learning about the disease in an engaging way thereby increasing adherence and also motivate the patients.
Gamification will teach patients how to recognise and control symptoms and encourage pro-activity among patients and other stakeholders. the hope is that patients understand their diseases better and leading to greater adherence which could in turn lead to better quality of life. In the long run, better adherance could lead to reduced treatment costs especially in chronic diseases
