Technology is playing a pivotal role in reshaping Indian healthcare

Ayush Chauhan, Executive Director, Prakash Hospital in an interaction with Express Healthcare talks about the key trends in healthcare industry and his hospital’s future plans

How do you see the current state of the healthcare industry in India, and what are the key trends driving change? How does Prakash Hospital ensure the quality and consistency of patient care at different wings?

The healthcare industry in India is experiencing rapid growth, driven by increasing demand for affordable, quality care, advancements in medical technology, and a growing focus on preventive healthcare. Key trends include the rise of telemedicine, digital health platforms, AI integration for diagnostics and treatment, and the expansion of health insurance coverage. Additionally, public-private partnerships are playing a crucial role in improving healthcare access in underserved regions.

At Prakash Hospital, we’re committed to delivering exceptional care, and that means ensuring consistency across all our wings. We achieve this through rigorous protocols, ongoing staff training, and robust quality assurance. Each wing is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by top-tier professionals who practice evidence-based medicine. Our centralised patient management system ensures seamless communication and coordinated care across departments. Regular audits, feedback mechanisms, and multidisciplinary meetings help us continually refine and uphold our high standards.

How is technology shaping up the current landscape and future of Indian hospitals and healthcare industry in India?

Technology is playing a pivotal role in reshaping Indian healthcare, driving improvements in diagnostics, treatment options, and patient care. The integration of AI, telemedicine, robotic surgery, and advanced diagnostic tools is revolutionising the healthcare landscape. Hospitals are now more equipped to provide faster, more accurate diagnoses, while AI aids in early detection and decision-making. Telemedicine extends healthcare access to remote areas, reducing geographical barriers. The future of Indian healthcare lies in further embracing technology, which will help streamline operations, enhance patient experiences, and improve treatment outcomes across the country.

How does Prakash Hospital ensure high-quality patient care and safety standards in its operations? What role does technology play in enhancing healthcare services at your hospital, and how have you implemented it?

We’re always looking to leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance patient care. Recently, we’ve introduced advanced diagnostic tools like the latest MRI and CT scanners for faster, more precise diagnoses. We also offer telemedicine services, allowing patients to consult specialists remotely, extending our reach beyond the hospital walls. AI-powered systems in radiology and pathology aid our professionals in early detection and accurate diagnoses. Additionally, we’re exploring the implementation of robotic surgery for minimally invasive procedures, which can lead to faster recovery and better outcomes. We’re currently in the process of installing the necessary equipment for robotic surgery, and we anticipate offering this advanced procedure soon.

The health industry has had its share of problems lately, such as staff shortages and ever-rising costs. Your view on this? How can India fill this gap? How does Prakash Hospital address these problems while maintaining standards of care?

We understand the challenges of staff shortages and rising costs. We’re taking proactive steps to mitigate their impact without compromising care quality. To address staff shortages, we invest heavily in talent development through ongoing education and training. We also cultivate a positive work environment that promotes retention and attracts top talent. Moreover, our group operates a para-medical college in Greater Noida, one of the oldest in the region. We ensure our students receive the best training, which contributes to a steady supply of qualified staff. On the financial front, we leverage technology to streamline operations, automate tasks, and use data analytics to control costs. We collaborate with suppliers and pharmaceutical companies to manage expenses. Our focus on value-based care ensures patients receive optimal treatment without unnecessary costs.

What are the future plans of the hospital? How do you envision outreach by the hospital to reach a broader community, especially the increasingly growing Noida region?

With Noida’s rapid growth, expanding our services to meet the community’s needs is a top priority. We’re actively involved in community outreach through health camps and partnerships with local organisations. We’re exploring satellite clinics and mobile units to reach underserved areas, making quality care more accessible. Telemedicine is also key in reaching patients who can’t visit us in person. We aim to foster stronger community ties through health education, wellness programs, and screenings addressing prevalent health concerns in Noida.

What do you believe are the key takeaways for improving healthcare delivery in India? Prakash Hospital gives a lot of importance to the patient’s experience. Are there any programs or initiatives that you have launched to make the patients comfortable and satisfied?

To improve healthcare delivery in India, it is essential to focus on enhancing accessibility, affordability, and quality. Bridging the urban-rural healthcare divide, investing in telemedicine, and expanding insurance coverage will help make healthcare more inclusive. Additionally, training healthcare professionals in new technologies and fostering collaboration between public and private sectors are key to achieving better outcomes. Preventive healthcare and patient-centric services should also be prioritised to improve the overall experience and well-being of patients across the country.

We’re committed to creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for our patients. We’ve renovated our rooms to provide a soothing and relaxing atmosphere, incorporating modern amenities and thoughtful touches. Our hospitality staff is dedicated to ensuring patients have a pleasant stay, addressing their needs, and providing personalised care. We’ve strived to create a hospital environment that feels less like a traditional institution and more like a home away from home, fostering a sense of comfort and well-being.
