Aster CMI Hospital has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to provide affordable liver transplantation services. The initiative aims to support patients with end-stage liver disease, particularly children suffering from conditions like biliary atresia or genetic defects.
Liver transplantation is essential for survival in such cases, offering a success rate of 95 per cent in children, especially when a living donor from the family is available. However, the cost of such procedures, typically ranging between Rs 20-25 lakhs, often prevents families from seeking treatment.
Aster CMI Hospital, through its collaboration with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and crowdfunding platforms, has developed India’s largest affordable paediatric liver transplant programme. The Aster Integrated Liver Care team has performed over 1,000 liver transplants, including groundbreaking procedures for infants weighing less than 5 kilograms.
Under this partnership, patients from Arunachal Pradesh requiring liver transplants can receive treatment at Aster CMI Hospital in Bangalore. The programme ensures the lowest cost in the country, with no additional financial burden on the state government or patients. This mechanism provides accessible healthcare, offering a critical solution for those in need.
Dr Sonal Asthana, Lead Consultant for HPB & Liver Transplant Surgery at Aster CMI Hospital, stated, “This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to making liver transplantation accessible and affordable for everyone. By leveraging advanced medical expertise and creating economic pathways, we aim to provide a second chance at life to those battling end-stage liver disease.”
SGS Lakshmanan, Chief Operating Officer of Aster CMI Hospital, added: “At Aster CMI, our mission is to make world-class healthcare accessible to all. By collaborating with Arunachal Pradesh’s government, we are setting a benchmark in affordable and specialised care, ensuring every patient receives the treatment they deserve, regardless of economic challenges.”
