CII’s Indian women network hosts 6th edition of “She Matters” on women’s health and wellness

Summit addresses gender disparities in women’s health and explores the role of technology in healthcare

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Indian Women Network (IWN) hosted the 6th Edition of She Matters on October 16, 2024 at Ginger Hotel, Vile Parle, Mumbai. Themed “Rise and Thrive: Unlocking Wellness,” the event gathered leaders and experts to discuss women’s health and wellness. The summit aimed to address the unique healthcare needs of women and promote innovative solutions.

The discussions focused on the importance of understanding women’s health at all stages of life, covering both physical and mental health concerns. Participants highlighted the disparities women face in healthcare systems, where their needs are often neglected.

Dr Shilpa Tatake, Group COO at Jupiter Hospital, pointed out the persistent gender inequality in healthcare. She said, “Gender inequality in women’s health is a pervasive issue, often overlooked by treating women’s health the same as men’s. This disparity is clear even in clinical trials, where women are underrepresented, leading to gaps in understanding and addressing their unique health needs.”

Vishal Kamat, Chairman of CII Maharashtra State Council, stressed that encouraging women to prioritise their well-being goes beyond self-care. He remarked, “When women invest in their wellness, they bring strength, balance, and innovation to every aspect of life—personally and professionally. By creating environments that support both mental and physical health, we open doors to limitless possibilities for growth and success.”

Gauri Pathak, Chairperson of CII IWN Maharashtra, called for a broader view of women’s health. “Health has different meanings for different people, but when it comes to women’s health, we must broaden the conversation beyond reproductive health and menopause. Women’s well-being is influenced by a complex range of factors—physical, mental, and social—that deserve equal attention and care,” she stated.

The event featured discussions on a wide range of topics, including mental health, self-esteem, and the growing role of technology in healthcare. Dr Ruksheda Syeda, Vice Chairperson of CII IWN Maharashtra, summarised the key takeaways: “From insightful discussions on mental health and self-esteem to exploring the role of artificial intelligence in women’s healthcare, and hearing powerful stories of resilience and triumph—we have all gained invaluable lessons.”
