Dr Todkar aims to work towards creating enhanced awareness about obesity and diabetes
Dr Jayashree Todkar, the first lady bariatric surgeon from Asia has been appointed the Secretary of ‘Obesity Surgery Society of India’ (OSSI) for next three years. OSSI is India’s national association for bariatric surgeons and allied health professionals, involved in delivering comprehensive bariatric and metabolic surgical care.
Dr Todkar is currently heading a department of Bariatric and Metabolic surgery at Dr LH Hiranandani Hospital, Powai. Through this appointment, Dr Todkar aims to work towards creating enhanced awareness about obesity and diabetes – one of the largest killer disease in India. Dr Todkar has had remarkable contributions in her vast experience.
“I am truly humbled and honored to be elected the secretary of the esteemed society. My aim along with OSSI is to create education and awareness amongst the people about the largest killer disease for 20th century. Most of the people don’t consider Obesity as a disease. Bariatric and metabolic surgical treatment at the earlier phases of the disease can ensure a significant reversibility of diabetes too,” said Dr Todkar, Bariatric and Metabolic surgeon at Dr LH Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, Mumbai.
She is the Director of International Center of Excellence for Bariatric surgery and has received this accreditation from Surgical Review Corporation from US. She is active in research in related surgical fields and various surgical organisation at national and international levels. She has presented and published her work in laparoscopy and obesity surgery as a invited facility at many prestigious national and international forums. She is the active and prominent part of the research in surgery for treatment for Type 2 Diabetes.
