G-SPARC 2024 to tackle infection prevention and antimicrobial resistance

Global conference in Hyderabad to unite experts on critical health challenges

The Global South Conference on Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship (G-SPARC) will take place from 03 to 05 October 2024 at the Shilpakalavedika convention centre, Hyderabad. The event is organised by the Infection Control Academy of India in collaboration with the University of Hyderabad and Pragyaan Sustainable Health Outcomes Foundation, with support from partners in academia, industry, healthcare, and professional associations.

Participants will gather to discuss strategies for infection prevention and control and the containment of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). The conference will address the current global health scenarios, including the threat of emerging and re-emerging infections, increasing rates of healthcare-associated infections, and the spread of antimicrobial resistance. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted how quickly infections can spread and their impact on public health, especially among vulnerable populations. The misuse and overuse of antimicrobials have resulted in a rise in antimicrobial-resistant infections, presenting a public health challenge.

“The conference will emphasise the need for healthcare professionals and stakeholders to prioritise infection prevention, control measures, and antimicrobial stewardship. A collaborative approach involving all sectors of society, including governments, healthcare providers, patients, and communities, is essential to address these challenges,” stated Dr Ranga Reddy Burri, Chairman, G-SPARC 2024.

The conference aims to foster productive discussions and provide insights to advance infection prevention and control, AMR, and One Health in various organisations and communities. The G-SPARC 2024 programme promises to be scientifically stimulating and informative.

The conference will cover several key areas, including infection prevention and control strategies, healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and antimicrobial resistance. Topics will encompass the latest developments in infection control, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of HAIs, and strategies for combating AMR, including stewardship programmes and the appropriate use of antibiotics.

Additional discussions will include national and sub-national action plans to contain AMR, occupational health and safety for healthcare workers, and the importance of education and training in infection control. The conference will also address pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response, alternative therapeutics, diagnostics, and surveillance systems, and the role of digital technologies in improving infection prevention and control and antimicrobial stewardship.
