Global Hospital launches robot-assisted heart surgery program

The program is led by Dr Chandrashekhar Kulkarni, Senior Consultant CVTS and lead Heart Transplant Surgeon at Global Hospital

Global Hospital, Parel has launched new robot-assisted heart surgery program, aimed at reducing recovery time and complications for patients who require delicate heart surgeries. The program is led by Dr Chandrashekhar Kulkarni, Senior Consultant CVTS and lead Heart Transplant Surgeon at Global Hospital, Parel, who has extensive experience in performing minimally invasive cardiac surgeries.

According to Dr Kulkarni, the hospital’s robot-assisted heart surgery program is equipped with the latest Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system. This technology allows surgeons to perform complex heart procedures with greater precision and accuracy than traditional open-heart surgeries. Patients benefit from smaller incisions, less blood loss, and faster recovery times. Robotic surgeries are also less invasive and have been shown to result in fewer complications and less pain for patients. Furthermore, the use of robotic technology helps to reduce infection risk and shorten hospital stays. Overall, robotic-assisted heart surgery is a ground breaking innovation in the field of heart surgery.

“The surgeon operates the robotic arms using specialised instruments from a console in the operating room during the procedure. The advanced technology of the robot allows for greater precision and accuracy, resulting in better outcomes for patients undergoing delicate heart surgeries like cardiac bypass surgery. Additionally, the system includes three-dimensional imaging technology that assists in quickly harvesting the main vessels with minimal damage to surrounding delicate structures. Patients who undergo robotic-assisted heart surgery experience smaller incisions, less blood loss, and faster recovery times, which leads to fewer complications and less pain. The use of advanced technology combined with performing robot-assisted cardiac surgeries has resulted in significant improvements.” adds Dr Kulkarni.

Dr Vivek Talaulikar, CEO, Global Hospitals has expressed that the launch of the program is a significant achievement for the hospital. This is because it aligns with their commitment to providing cutting-edge medical technology and innovative procedures that lead to better outcomes for patients. Although robotic surgeries are commonly used in Urology, Oncology, Gynecology, Liver transplantation, Thoracic, and Gastrointestinal procedures, Minimally Invasive Robotic assisted cardiac Bypass Surgeries are now gaining popularity as well. Patients who have undergone robot-assisted heart surgery at Global Hospital in Parel, Mumbai have reported faster recovery times and no complications. The hospital is delighted to provide this advanced technology to its patients and takes pride in doing so.
