Thulium lasers are effective and are more powerful, so prostate tissue can be efficiently vapourised
Global Hospital Mumbai has acquired the latest technology to treat prostrate or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH); Thulium Laser Enucleation of Prostate (ThuLEP), dual laser technology for prostrate treatment.
ThuLEP, the new German laser, combines two lasers Thulium and Raman into one. Thulium lasers are effective and are more powerful, so prostate tissue can be efficiently vapourised. ThuLEP allows real time wavelength modulation for both cutting mode (Thulium) and coagulating mode (Raman) without changing fiber unlike other lasers. Both the lasers are connected with a machine. The Thulium lasers cuts the prostrate and Raman laser heals the wound and there is negligible or no blood loss with this procedure.
Dr Pradeep Rao, Head, Department of Urology, Global Hospitals, Mumbai says, “ThuLEP is an innovative transurethral technique which utilises thulium laser for complete anatomical enucleation. It is a bloodless procedure compared to earlier techniques. The technique combines maximum efficiency with minimal side-effects. Earlier the risk of treatment was high. Patient who are on anticoagulant, or has heart valves or who cannot be treated with older techniques can easily get treated from ThuLEP technique.”
ThuLEP can be used to treat prostates of all types of sizes including the ones more than 100gm.
