Health department officials will distribute doxycycline through Kudumbashree and other agencies
Staff from Kerala Health Department, on leave, will be recalled for duty in the wake of the flood. This was stated by KK Shailaja, Health Minister, Kerala, during a recent review meeting at Malappuram Collectorate. Shailaja said the department was taking measures to prevent the outbreak of epidemics including rat fever once the floodwater recedes. According to the minister, only emergency leaves will be sanctioned to the staff.
The next six Saturdays will be observed as Doxy Day. Health Department officials will distribute doxycycline through Kudumbashree and other agencies. She also directed the department officials to ensure the cooperation of local self-government bodies in eliminating breeding grounds of mosquitoes.
Shailaja also directed the officials to ensure speedy cleaning of flood-affected schools. Adequate facilities should be arranged in hospitals and special attention should be given to tribal areas, she added.
