Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi – A Fortis Network Hospital has launched palliative care unit.
Palliative treatment is provided to terminally ill patients, who could be bedridden and are suffering from unbearable pain. This initiative will help patients suffering from cancer and chronic heart disease, kidney diseases, lung disease etc. The unit will be headed by Dr Farah Ingale, Director-Internal Medicine, Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi. Her team will comprise of nutritionists, nursing support, psychologists, physiotherapists, paramedics, medical social workers, counsellors, etc.
Dr Ingale said, “This initiative makes palliative care more accessible for Navi Mumbaikars. The unit will be fully equipped to help better the quality of life of patients (with life-threatening illness) and their families. The initiative will offer support system to help patients live as actively as possible. It will provide aid to caregivers both emotionally and physically, as trained and infrastructurally equipped caregivers will take care of their loved ones.”
The unit is set up in accordance with Pallium India’s guidelines, which aim to catalyse the development of effective pain relief and quality palliative care services & its integration across healthcare platforms. This palliative care unit will cater to the needs of patients at the hospital and would be accessible to individuals suffering from terminal illness and wish to avail the services.
