Early diagnosis of prediabetes can reverse the condition, and poor awareness about one’s glucose tolerance status can promote diabetes
Homoeo Amigo has launched free diabetes screening and awareness camps at its 6 clinics across Delhi-NCR. The camps as a part of Homoeo Amigo’s special drive launched on World Diabetes Day earlier this year.
India is deemed as the world’s capital of diabetes. The diabetic population in the country is close to hitting the alarming mark of 69.9 million by 2025 and 80 million by 2030. As per a study released in July 2021, 12.3 per cent of children aged 10 to 19 years in India were found to be pre-diabetic or diabetic. It is important for people living with diabetes to manage it with the right nutrition and medicine that improves quality of life and reduces the long-term effects of allopathic/western medicines. Besides, unhealthy lifestyle, fatty and sugar-rich diet, and lack of physical activity are making India’s young population, especially in cities, vulnerable to type 2 diabetes. Though early diagnosis of prediabetes is proven to reverse the condition, awareness about one’s glucose tolerance status is poor, leading to people becoming diabetic before they are diagnosed.
All camps will provide access to doctors without waiting, constant monitoring, customised medications, and expert guidance on building a healthy lifestyle.
Talking about the drive, Karan Bhargava, Founder, Homoeo Amigo says, “There is an alarming rise in the number of diabetics in India and most of them are in the productive age group. The Lancet’s Global Burden of Disease Study 1990–2016 finds that prevalence of diabetes in adults aged 20 years or older in India increased from 5·5 per cent in 1990 to 7·7 per cent in 2016. Our camps are aimed at resuming access to diabetes screening and education, helping in early diagnosis and comprehensive diabetes care, including medicines for treatment. We have conducted more than 1500 tests so far in the age group of 25 – 40 years and look forward to more participation.”
