Intuitive, a global technology leader in minimally invasive care and robotic-assisted surgery, has announced the appointment of Rohitt Mahajan as vice president and general manager for India. Mahajan will oversee the company’s business strategy and operations in the country.
“India is poised to be a global leader in minimally invasive care. The combination of innovative surgeons, patient-focused hospitals, and forward-thinking policymakers committed to delivering exceptional care makes India incredibly dynamic and important for Intuitive,” said Glenn Vavoso, senior vice president and president, Asia Pacific at Intuitive. “Rohitt Mahajan brings deep healthcare experience from India and across Asia, which will enable Intuitive to build stronger partnerships with healthcare providers and positively impact patient care in India.”
Mahajan has over 17 years of experience in sales, marketing, strategy, and operations across healthcare, consumer durables, and IT sectors. Since joining Intuitive in 2018, he has held leadership roles such as area sales director for India and director of commercial operations for Asia. In these roles, he contributed to the expansion of Intuitive’s commercial operations across India and the Asia region, including China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
“Intuitive India is uniquely positioned to help shape the healthcare landscape in India,” said Mahajan. “I am excited to collaborate with surgeons and executives and lead the Intuitive India team as we expand patient access to robotic-assisted surgery and the benefits it can offer.”
Intuitive has been operating directly in India since 2018, focusing on advancing minimally invasive care through the adoption of robotic-assisted surgical systems. Its technology is used in leading private and government hospitals, medical institutes, and state government medical colleges. The company has invested US $6 million to establish four training centres in India, including one at AIIMS New Delhi. Currently, there are over 180 da Vinci surgical programmes in India, with more than 1 lakh procedures performed by over 850 trained surgeons.
To support its growing presence, Intuitive recently established a global capability centre (GCC) in Bengaluru. The centre is one of the company’s global hubs for functions such as IT support, enterprise analytics, software quality, human resource management, and post-market surveillance.
