The Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) hosted the three-day ISIC Spine Course 2024, focusing on spine surgery education and spinal injury treatment in India. The programme attracted over 250 delegates and featured some of the country’s leading spine surgery experts. The event was designed to address the growing need for specialised training in spine treatment and rehabilitation, providing a platform for young and aspiring surgeons to gain practical knowledge and mentorship.
The course offered a comprehensive curriculum covering trauma, degenerative conditions, tumours, and infections. Participants engaged in mentored surgical sessions, case-based discussions, and workshops aimed at enhancing basic and advanced surgical skills.
Workshops included the Midas Workshop, focusing on precision surgical tools; the Robotic Workshop, introducing automation in spine procedures; the Dural Repair Workshop, which covered techniques for repairing spinal membranes; and the Sawbone Workshop, which provided realistic surgical simulations.
Dr Vikas Tandon, Director and Chief of Spine Services at ISIC, stated, “The ISIC Spine Course 2024 is an initiative aimed at shaping the future of spine surgery in India. By blending training with expert mentorship, our effort is to bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring that young surgeons are equipped to perform complex procedures with precision and confidence. The overwhelming participation and response is an example of the need for such specialised programmes.”
A highlight of the programme was the “War of Wizards” quiz, featuring postgraduate teams from institutions including AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Rishikesh, Maulana Azad Medical College, and CMC Vellore. Winners were awarded a fully sponsored one-month observership at ISIC, offering further opportunities for training and development.
