Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre Organized a panel discussion to spread awareness on diabetes

The agenda of the event was to spread awareness about diabetes and importance over early detection and prevalence

On the occasion of World Diabetes Awareness Month, Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre had organised a panel discussion on ‘Diabetes Management’. Diabetes affects thousands of people every year, it has risen from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014 according to the WHO report 2016. Seema Pinto, Founder of Diabetes Food Trail, Megha Gupta, Indian television actress along with eminent medical professionals Dr Joy Desai, Consultant Neurologist; Dr Nihar Mehta, Consultant Cardiologist, Dr Phiroze Patel, Director, Department of Ophthalmology; Dr Shaival Chandalia Consultant Endocrinologist and lastly Dr Snehal Bhange, General Surgeon were a part of the panel discussion. The agenda of the event was to spread awareness about diabetes and importance over early detection and prevalence.

Diabetes prevalence has been rising more rapidly in the middle and low income countries. In 2016, an estimated 1.6 million deaths were directly caused by diabetes. Another 2.2 million deaths were attributed to high blood glucose in 2012.Addressing the audience Jitendra Haryan, Chief Executive Officer at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre highlighted “Diabetes is a long-term condition that causes high blood sugar. Keeping in mind the theme of World Diabetes Month which is ‘The Family and Diabetes’ Jaslok Hospital one of the oldest tertiary have raised a cause of concern to throw light on the ignored topic of fighting against the silent killer. ”
Seema Pinto, Founder of Diabetic Food Trail stated, “Every person is the author of their life!’ We can rewrite important chapters based on our current circumstances. With current lifestyles being what they are, it isn’t uncommon for people to become diabetic at an early age. Most people are not aware that they are pre-diabetic and can postpone the onset of diabetes with a well-managed diet and fitness programme. The Diabetic Food Trail is a humble initiative to spread awareness of importance of healthy living.”

Megha Gupta, Indian television actress also an Influencer said, “Type 1 diabetes has always been a hard belief to deal with. It has been a struggle to keep it under observation and control. Hence this initiative by Jaslok Hospital has it’s stand alone presence across the society. I hope the hospital keeps spreading knowledge and educates the masses year on year basis.

The event witnessed to be a knowledge sharing platform through doctors and various industrial influencers. To mark the occasion Jaslok Hospital lit the building blue to support the cause.
