Home hemodialysis is a safe and effective option with schedules tailored to patients’ needs. The service can be initiated in less than 24 hours, catering to 25 to 30 patients every day
Max Healthcare’s Max@Home service has tied up with NephroPlus to provide dialysis services for patients at their doorsteps. This format of hemodialysis at home would be amongst the first to be launched in NCR. Sequentially, Max@Home plans to expand the service in other network cities too, including Mumbai, Chandigarh Tricity and Dehradun, according to a company statement.
Other than this, Max@Home did pioneering work in providing COVID-based home services since the beginning of the pandemic in April 2020. The services included RT PCR home sample collection, home delivery of medicines and monitoring equipment and telemonitoring by certified care givers eventually catering to end-to-end home management of asymptomatic to mild COVID-19 patients. Services were successfully delivered to more than 10,000 patients across Delhi-NCR since the beginning of the pandemic, said the statement.
Commenting on the need for the launch of this service, Dr Sandeep Budhiraja, Group Medical Director, Max Healthcare, said, “The pressure the pandemic has exerted on non-COVID patient services has been immense. Patients as well as their caregivers are under a constant fear of contracting the infection due to frequent hospital visits. Providing hemodialysis within the comfort of their homes will benefit such patients. Home hemodialysis (HHD) is a safe and effective option for patients, owing to the high rate of infections during peak infection times as well as non-availability of beds, especially in the face of a lockdown, amongst others. In fact, people who are on home dialysis are less likely to have frequent hospitalisation.”
Elaborating on the scope of the services, Vishal Lathwal, (Business Head – Max@Home) explained, “Dialysis warrants a significant change in lifestyle and daily routines for those who need to undergo these cycles at various centres, including at hospitals. This is not only inconvenient for the patient but also the family members who often need to accompany and plan travel for such treatment. At Max@Home, our constant endeavour is to increasingly deliver more and more clinically-relevant services at patients’ doorstep. Patients can call on our 24X7 helpline at 8744 888 888 to avail the service. Schedules are tailored as per their needs, in consultation with their treating nephrologist, and can be initiated within 24 hours post-assessment.”
The statement also notified that patients can choose from three options for home dialysis services: a permanent machine installed at home; dialysis on wheels service wherein the machine can be brought on a van; and dialysis on call which places a movable machine in the patient’s house.
Vikram Vuppala, Founder and CEO, NephroPlus, added, “We are happy to partner with Max@Home to provide dialysis services to patients at their homes. During the pandemic, this has been the need-of-the-hour as patients are scared to go to hospitals for dialysis. This partnership brings the best strengths of both the companies to the market with Max@Home being a leading player in home healthcare and NephroPlus being the market leader in dialysis services.”
