NABH recently released the first edition of Digital Health Standards
MedLern welcomes the recent release of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) first edition of Digital Health Standards. This significant launch aligns with the evolving landscape of healthcare administration and delivery systems, emphasising the pivotal role of digital health-centric accreditation programs and certifications.
Accreditation, driven by a combination of self-assessment and external peer review, has long been a cornerstone for transparency, accountability, and the continual improvement of quality of healthcare and patient safety. As technology and medicine converge, the need for Digital Health Standards becomes imperative. NABH’s release of these standards on September 17, 2023, is a timely response to the growing adoption of digital solutions in healthcare.
As Phase 2 development in digital health, NABH has initiated to create the Digital Health Standards and guidelines for EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and HIS (Hospital Information System) vendors. In addition, NABH will be developing basic training content for digital health infrastructure in the country.
Dr Atul Mohan Kochhar, CEO, NABH, stated, “The first edition of Digital Health Standards is based on global best practices keeping in view the trends and innovations in the healthcare IT sector. It goes without saying that the implementation of NABH-Digital Health Standards across the country calls for proactive participation from different stakeholders. And here, the role of comprehensive learning and skill development platforms comes to the forefront. The active intervention of med-tech players like MedLern with a competitive edge due to their excellent penetration in the healthcare sector with digital disruption capability is much needed. We encourage hospitals to make the best use of this opportunity by applying for digital health accreditation standards as part of our early adopter program.”
Deepak Sharma, CEO and Co-Founder, MedLern said, “The release of NABH’s Digital Health Standards will accelerate the digital mindset in hospital leadership teams. These standards support rapid adoption of ABDM standards and will herald a new era of improved care outcomes, hospital productivity improvements and creation of valuable data assets for research into public health and core clinical areas. MedLern’s hospital partners have already been using our comprehensive digital suite of tools to manage compliance, completion, coverage and impact. ”
The first edition of NABH’s Digital Health Standards encompasses eight broad standards, including Access, Assessment and Continuity of Care (AAC); Care of Patients (COP); Management of Medication (MOM); Digital Infrastructure (DIS); Digital Operations Management (DOM); Finance and Procurement Management (FPM); Human Resource Management (HRM); and Information Management System (IMS). These standards, comprising 180 objective elements, offer a robust foundation for the digitisation journey.
One unique aspect of these standards is the provision for three maturity levels of accreditation – silver, gold, and platinum – allowing hospitals to measure and showcase their progress over time.
