Neuberg Diagnostics, in collaboration with the Pondicherry State Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session in Puducherry. The session, titled “Behind the Microscope: Challenges and Complexities in Diagnosing Breast Lesions”, focused on advancements in pathology and radiology.
Dr Ramya Natarajan, Senior Consultant Oncopathologist and Head of Histopathology at Neuberg Diagnostics, delivered a detailed presentation on diagnostic challenges in breast lesions. She highlighted the complexities involved in evaluating papillary lesions and emphasised that trucut biopsies often depend on the distribution of the myoepithelial layer to determine whether a lesion is benign or malignant. She explained that excision biopsies are often preferred for cystic breast lesions to enable a more comprehensive study.
Dr Rama Krishnan R.S., Consultant Radiologist at Neuberg Diagnostics, contributed with presentations titled “Gut Instincts: Decoding Complex GI Cases with Radiology” and “Basics of MR Fistulogram.” He outlined the critical role of imaging in managing gastrointestinal (GI) conditions, underscoring the use of advanced techniques like MR fistulograms for diagnosing and managing anal fistulas.
“In cases where clinical findings are inconclusive, imaging serves as the cornerstone for understanding GI pathologies. Collaborative efforts between radiologists and surgeons significantly enhance patient outcomes,” said Dr Krishnan. He elaborated on how MR fistulograms provide precise mapping of fistulous tracts and associated abscesses, offering essential insights for preoperative planning and improved patient care.
The session drew active participation from medical professionals, fostering discussions on innovative diagnostic approaches and best practices. Neuberg Diagnostics and ASI aim to promote interdisciplinary cooperation and support ongoing medical education through such collaborations.
