The new innovative method does not involve cutting, stitching, improves on closure that laser and plain sclerotherapy can achieve
Dr Saurabh Joshi, Founder , The Vein Center and his team have innovated a new technique to treat large bulgy veins on the legs without a traditional method of the open surgery. The traditional method involves cutting and stitching and leaves a scar. An improvement on the traditional method was laser surgery and sclerotherapy. These do not leave a scar but are considered inconsistent with large and tortuous veins. The new innovative method does not involve any cutting and stitching, and improves on the closure that laser and plain sclerotherapy can achieve.
This new technology is highly relevant for patients’ aged between 25 – 65 years. The procedure is vastly challenging as it involves placing two different type of medicines, a ‘Glue’ plug, made from medical grade glue that closes the exit path of these veins and a ‘Sclerosing’ agent that acts on the wall of the rest of the vein to close it. These injections have to be performed with pinpoint accuracy and precision to ensure good placement. It helps 80 per cent reduction in size of veins within a week. Further, the healing process of closure of these abnormal veins continues for 8-10 weeks. A patient then needs to follow up for up to six months to a year with the doctors.
Dr Joshi and the team said, “Varicose veins affects 10 million people in India each year. Our intention was to find a safe and consistent method that helps close these very large veins without too much discomfort to the patient. This innovation is the future of varicose veins treatment as it helps better the lives of thousands who suffer from this disease.”
