Bangalore Governor roots for the elderly

Speaking at a press conference to announce a one-day seminar on “Healthy ageing in the changing world – 2012”, to be held on September 29, H R Bharadwaj, Governor, Karnataka stated that the public health system in India should focus more on vulnerable sections of the society like the elderly and the poor.

The Governor also said that the government should also look at introducing hospitals as well as insurance schemes to help the elderly. VP Rao, convener of the seminar, informed that the objective of the conference is to combine the knowledge of specialists regarding ageing associated diseases with the knowledge of geriatricians regarding the course of age related diseases and the treatment of the same which in turn would help the elderly to lead a better quality life. The conference would provide a platform for doctors, scientists and people related to medical field to discuss on various aspects of old age related problems.

The conference is being jointly organised by BioGenesis Health Cluster, The Euro-Indian Health Cluster and Federation of Asian Biotech Association (FABA). It will be inaugurated by MN Venkatachalaiah, Former Chief Justice of India in the presence of Dr VP Rao, Scientific Advisory Counsel, iBRAIN LifeSciences plc UK & India, Dr Satish Chandra, Prof of Neurology, Director & Vice Chancellor, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bengaluru and Dr BS Bajaj, Secretary General FABA and Chairman, AIBA- SC, Hyderabad.

The conference would also focus on the contribution of Biotechnology to Gerontology.
