In its effort to provide comprehensive and robust clinical care for cardiac patients, BM Birla Heart Research Centre, Kolkata, recently launched its ’24X7 Chest Pain Clinic’.

Janab Firhad Hakim, the West Bengal Minister for Municipal Affairs & Urban Development inaugurated the Clinic in the presence of Rupak Barua, the CEO of BM Birla Heart Research Centre, Kolkata.

Later elaborating on the initiative, Barua told Express Healthcare, “This initiative by BM Birla Heart will not only help people understand the symptoms but also provide inputs on prevention. The Centre aims to provide quality cardiac care to the patients and meet their urgent and critical needs. Keeping in mind that 85 per cent of heart muscle damage occurs in the first two hours of a heart attach and irreversible damage starts within minutes, we have set up a state-of-the-infrastructure manned by trained personnel to diagnose the cause of chest pain and provide emergency treatment. The main objective of our heart specialists would be to evaluate, diagnose and treat these symptoms in as little time as possible to not only save the person’s life, but to also save their quality of life.”

Barua claimed it to be the first such an initiative in the Eastern part of the country. He said, “Patients who feel a pain in the chest, suffer from breathlessness or any other kind of complications can dial a dedicated number at any time of the day and we will lift the patient from his/ her residence and rush to the hospital in a fully equipped ambulance.”

The intent of this initiative is to deal with acute chest pain and to provide patients with the proper medical attention required. Barua said that the patient would leave the hospital with a clear diagnosis or their risk for cardiac disease and next steps needed to treat the medical issue.
