CLF promotes awareness on liver health

Chennai Liver Foundation (CLF), a voluntary, non-profit organisation is promoting awareness about liver health, in the lead-up to World Liver Day – April 19, 2014. Reportedly, it offers help, support and information to the medical fraternity and the general public about diagnosis, prevention and treatment of liver related diseases. The foundation aims to create awareness and dispel the myths that misguide the public’s understanding of the risks and impact of liver diseases.

CLF is run by a team of experts headed by Prof RP Shanmugam, a pioneer in the field of gastroenterology in India. Reportedly, he was the first to conduct the country’s first successful liver transplant in a government set up.

Prof Mohamed Rela, Director of the Institute of Liver Diseases, Global Hospitals, is the chief patron of this foundation. Dr Vivekanandan, son-in-law of Dr RRP Shanmugam, is the Managing Trustee of the foundation. CLF has been conducting regular screening camps for the needy where hundreds of people are screened for liver related diseases. Treatment is meted out at a nominal cost for those found affected and free for the unaffordable. To increase reach manifold, CLF strives to collect a corpus fund to use for treatment of liver diseases including life saving cancer surgery involving liver and pancreas.
