The Bombay Medical Aid Foundation (BMAF) honoured Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, an eminent Cardio Thoratic Surgeon, as this year’s ‘Karmayogi’ at the 19th Karmayogi Puraskar presentation held recently in Mumbai.
Dr Shetty has spearheaded the launch of a novel Health Insurance Scheme for the farmers of Karnataka. Dr Shetty and his team have performed more than 70,000 major heart surgeries and are the first in the world to coin the term ‘Micro Health Insurance.’
Dr DY Patil, Governor of Tripura, was the Chief Guest, while HE Dr AK Jagessur, GOSK, High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius and Prabhakar Dalal, Executive Director of Exim Bank of India were the Guests of Honour. Various dignitaries were also present during the felicitation ceremony.
Bombay Medical Aid Foundation was established in 1979 with the objective of helping poor people suffering from heart disease and needing to undergo heart surgery. The foundation arranges regular camps of cataract, gynaec, paediatric, diabetes, orthopaedic, cardiac and general health check-up.
