Globus Medical received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its ExcelsiusFlex robotic navigation platform with Total Knee Arthroplasty application and the ACTIFY 3D Total Knee System in July this year. These systems exemplify the transformative potential of robotic-assisted technologies, setting new standards for precision and efficiency in surgical procedures, says GlobalData.

According to GlobalData, orthopaedic surgery will continue to be greatly impacted by the robotic surgical systems market, which is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.7 per cent between 2023 and 2033. The progress in robotic technology, which is being used more often in complicated orthopaedic surgeries like hip and knee replacements, is primarily responsible for this development.

Elia Garcia, Medical Analyst at GlobalData, comments, “Robotic-assisted surgical technologies are transforming orthopaedic surgery by delivering unmatched precision, efficiency, and safety through advanced robotic navigation and real-time data integration. This innovative approach overcomes the limitations of traditional methods, offering a more detailed and interactive surgical experience. By enabling robotically guided resections and pre-planned implant placements, these systems reduce errors, minimize complications, and improve patient outcomes.”

The ExcelsiusFlex platform is designed to support primary total knee arthroplasty procedures by offering robotically guided resections based on pre-planned implant placement. By providing real-time feedback and visualization, the platform helps to minimise errors and improve surgical outcomes, ultimately leading to better patient care.

Garcia concludes, “As Globus Medical moves forward with production and commercialisation, the orthopaedic market is poised to benefit from these innovative solutions, leading to improved patient outcomes and more efficient surgical practices.”
