35 hospitalisations, 28 deaths as more than 85 lakh take COVID-19 shots in 31 days

Hospitalisations and deaths comprise 0.0004 per cent and 0.0003 per cent respectively of total vaccinations

31 days after India launched its COVID-19 vaccination campaign, 35 persons have been hospitalised so far. This comprises 0.0004 per cent of the total vaccinations. Of these 35 cases, 21 were discharged after treatment, while 11 persons died and three are under treatment.

A Ministry of Health and Family Welfare press briefing at the end of the day 31 (February 31) of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign also revealed that In the last 24 hours, one person suffering from Central Retinal Vein Occlusion has been hospitalised due to high BP at Bombay Hospital, Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

Total 28 deaths have been recorded till date. These comprise 0.0003 per cent of the total COVID-19 vaccinations. Of the 28, eleven persons died in the hospital while 17 deaths are recorded outside the hospital.

No case of serious/severe AEFI/death is attributable to vaccination, till date as per the release.

In the last 24 hours, one new death of a 53-year-old male, who was a resident of Deoria, Uttar Pradesh has been reported. The person reportedly suffered from sudden breathlessness and chest pain on the second day of vaccination and was brought dead to the hospital. The post-mortem has been conducted and results are awaited.

Globally, India has the second highest number of COVID-19 cases (after the US), the fourth highest number of reported deaths due to COVID-19 and leads the world in terms of COVID-19 recoveries.

The cumulative number of healthcare and frontline workers vaccinated against COVID-19 crossed 85 lakhs, with the count at end of Day 31 February 15 coming to 85,16,771 beneficiaries vaccinated through 1,83,664 sessions, as per the provisional report till 6 pm. These include 60,57,162 HCWs who have taken the first dose and 98,118 HCWs who have taken the second dose, along with 23,61,491 FLWs (first dose). While the countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16, vaccination of the FLWs started from February 2.

Total 2,31,476 beneficiaries were vaccinated in 9,935 sessions conducted till 6 pm February 15, of which 1,57,919 beneficiaries got their first dose and 73,557 HCWs received the second dose of vaccine as per the provisional daily report.

Fourteen states/UT have vaccinated more than 70 per cent of the registered HCWs. These are – Bihar, Lakshadweep, Tripura, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Sikkim.

On the other hand, five states/UT have reported less than 40 per cent coverage of registered HCWs. These are Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Chandigarh, Nagaland and Puducherry.

10 States that recorded highest number of vaccinations are Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.
