Apollo hospitals launches Apollo Research Academy to lead global healthcare research and innovation
Initiative aims to consolidate Apollo’s research efforts and position it as a global leader in healthcare innovation
Apollo Hospitals has announced the launch of the Apollo Research Academy. The initiative aims to position Apollo as a global leader in healthcare research and innovation. The Academy, under the leadership of Professor Ravi P Mahajan CBE, will bring together various Apollo entities. These include the Apollo Health Education and Research Foundation (AHERF), Apollo University, ARI, Apollo Research Centre, and Apollo Clinical Innovation Group. The goal is to create a cohesive and internationally recognised hub of research excellence.
Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder & Chairman, Apollo Hospitals said, “The Apollo Research Academy embodies the spirit of “One Apollo,” leveraging the collective strengths of the group’s diverse research and educational organisations. This strategic alignment is designed to enhance Apollo’s research potential, foster collaboration, and build partnerships with eminent national and international funding and research organisations. By integrating the expertise of these entities, the Academy aims to transition from being “research active” to becoming a global leader in healthcare research and innovation, with a significant impact on health care and policy.”
Dr Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals said, “Our ambition is to establish a world-class Academy that will drive innovation, facilitate groundbreaking research, and position Apollo as a preferred partner for industry and academic collaborations globally. Apollo Hospitals already have the building blocks to delve deeper into education and research. The ARA will act as a natural extension arm that will propel Apollo beyond current achievements and focus on the future of medicine.”
The Academy will focus on five key areas: Capacity and Culture, Sponsored Research, Investigator-Driven Research, Data Sciences, and Innovation.
In Capacity and Culture, the Academy will implement a comprehensive program of educational courses, skill-enhancing events, resource sharing, and collaborative projects for research and innovation across the Apollo ecosystem.
In Sponsored Research, the Academy plans to expand its portfolio by adopting a consortium approach and strengthening partnerships with Contract Research Organisations (CROs).
In Investigator-Driven Research, the Academy will build consortiums in areas of national priority and form strategic international collaborations and partnerships to enhance research programs and outputs aimed at world-class healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
In Data Sciences, the Academy will establish a Centre for Digital Health and Precision Medicine, focusing on research outputs, grant funding, and innovations.
In Innovation, the Academy will develop coordinated innovation hubs, incubators, and accelerators. It will harness talent and establish strong partnerships nationally and internationally to translate innovative ideas into practical applications.
The Apollo Research Academy will operate under a three-tier governance structure to ensure effective oversight and strategic direction. The Executive Steering Group, led by Dr. Preetha Reddy and other key leaders, will guide the Academy’s vision and objectives. A Program Board, comprising heads of member organisations, will oversee daily operations, while individual project boards will manage specific initiatives and consortiums.
