The initiative will guide, assist and educate patients on neurological related issues
In a bid to help patients suffering from neurological epidemic, Gurgaon-based Artemis Hospital, has launched a first of its kind neuroscience helpline number, 9716877771, a single point of contact. It will assist patients pan India on neurological relates issues.
Three doctors from the neuroscience department, who launched the emergency helpline number in Delhi recently, informed that the initiative is to guide, assist and educate patients on neurological related issues right from continuous headache, stroke, to brain haemorrhage.
“The helpline number will provide information and education regarding the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options for stroke and brain haemorrhage, apart from emergency services,” said Dr Vipul Gupta– Director Neurointerventional Surgery and Co-Director stroke unit, Artemis hospital.
An expert team specially trained by neurosurgeons, neurologists and interventional surgeons will provide assistance and help patients receive proper treatment. A team of special neurologists and neurosurgeons will review calls and offer solutions as per the need.
“The emergency helpline number will work towards stabilising the patient till the time he/she is transported to the nearest hospital in the event of an emergency. Patients can call and make a request for help,” said Dr Aditya Gupta, Director- Neurosurgery, Artemis hospital.
He further said, “The helpline number will be a single point of contact for patients, attendants and anyone in crisis. A range of supportive interventions, accessing services, crisis reviews and liaison with care teams will be offered.”
Informing that neurosurgery is a critical branch of medicine, as it deals with head injury, brain haemorrhage and brain tumours, Dr Sumeet Singh, Director-Neurology said, “We need to address such cases in a timely manner. However, it remains one of the most under-served areas of medicine in our country today. The helpline number will help patients and families to tide over the initial ordeal.”
Apart from the helpline number, Artemis hospital has also conceptualised Integrated Practice Unit (IPU), where a team of specialists will decide the best course of treatment for disorders like headache, epilepsy, stroke etc.
The team of surgeons also informed that one in six people suffer a stroke in their lifetime and immediate attention within six hours is the key to treatment. Through this helpline, the aim is to reach out to the maximum number of patients.
