 As TPM spikes to 30,044, India posts largest per day increase in COVID-19 cases globally

Globally, COVID-19 infections surpassed 25 million, with the US, Brazil and India in the top three positions for number of cases as well as deaths. In terms of global recovered, Brazil tops, followed by India and then the US.
India detected 78,512 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, setting a global record for daily rise in cases, which took the country’s COVID-19 tally beyond 36 lakh.
A record number of more than 10.5 lakh COVID tests were reportedly conducted over the last 24 hours, taking the country’s cumulative tests past the 4 crore mark. (4,14,61,636). The jump in testing capacity and cumulative tests resulted in a corresponding upsurge in the Tests Per Million (TPM) to 30,044.
Of the 36,21,246 cases of COVID-19 in India, 7,81,975 patients are under treatment for the disease, 27,74,802 have recovered, as per union health ministry data. 971 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking India’s COVID-19 toll to 64,469.

With more patients recovering and being discharged from hospitals and home isolation (in case of mild and moderate cases), India’s COVID-19 total recoveries have crossed 27 lakh, as per Ministry of Health & Family Welfare data.

The union health ministry attributed the recovery of 27,13,933 patients to effective implementation of the Centre conceived and led policy of testing aggressively, tracking comprehensively through timely surveillance of close contacts, and treating effectively through a widening medical care infrastructure across the country.
