The complex fourteen hour long marathon surgery needed lot of immaculate planning and split second life saving decisions by the team

CARE Hospitals, Visakhapatnam gave a new lease of life to two patients ASN, 47 years, from Vizianagaram District and JSR, 45 years from Krishna District who were suffering from end stage liver disease or in medical parlance (terminology) known as liver cirrhosis.

The surgical team was spearheaded by Dr Kanchustambam, Director, Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Surgery, with team of doctors comprising Dr G Satyanarayana, Gastroenetrologist & Hepatologist; Dr T Mohan S Maharaj, Anaesthesiologist and Dr David, Intensivist at CARE Hospitals Visakhapatnam. The complex fourteen hour long marathon surgery needed lot of immaculate planning and split second life saving decisions by the team and backed by the most advance medical equipment and infrastructure. The complex procedure comprised excision of the diseased and damaged liver and transplanting the healthy liver from the brain dead donor. After the surgical procedures, both patients are recuperating well and hoping to lead almost a healthy and normal life after being discharged from the hospital today.

Dr T Mohan S Maharaj, Medical Director CARE Hospitals Visakhapatnam said, “The liver is the largest organ in the body which does more than 500 functions. When liver fails to work, there is no alternative other than Liver transplantation which is Life saving.
