Credihealth to launch system to facilitate donor exchanges for organ transplants

It will collate a list of legal donor-recipient pairs across hospitals that do not have matching blood groups and connect eligible pairs for transplants based on an algorithm

Credihealth, medical assistance company will soon facilitate organ swap services on its platform through a digital, algorithm-based system. Credihealth will assist patients looking for organ swapping services to connect with the right doctor and hospital, and facilitate the exchange of relevant information pertaining to the procedure and cost. Credihealth will launch this service by aiding patients looking for a liver transplant, eventually assisting patients with other organ transplant procedures as well.

Reportedly, Credihealth will collate a list of legal donor-recipient pairs across hospitals that do not have matching blood groups and connect eligible pairs for transplants based on an algorithm. These donor-recipient pairs will be directed to the hospital of their choice and the hospital will carry out the necessary due diligence for the transplant procedure. Credihealth will collaborate with its top partner hospitals in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai for this service.

Commenting on the launch of the program, Ravi Virmani, Founder and MD, Credihealth commented, “Incident-based organ transplants are undertaken at nearly every top hospital in the country. However, the problem is a lack of awareness and information about the procedure or how the wait list system works. There are also several practical hurdles that worsen the situation for patients in addition to this shortage of transplantable organs. While attempts are being made to rectify this situation, there is a need to explore other avenues to minimise the shortfall. This is where a mathematical match-making approach will play an important role as an alternative solution and facilitate greater transparency into this very critical area of healthcare.”
