Decision to replace Medical Council of India with National Medical Commission is debatable: Dr PM Bhujang, Association of Hospital
Dr PM Bhujang, President, Association of Hospital highlights,“The decision to replace Medical Council of India (MCI) with National Medical Commission is debatable. The draft bill seems to address the challenges of medical education and practice, though there is no adequate representation of doctors. The merger of National Board of Examination is not a good move as it was providing parallel additional post graduate doctors. The bill has to state how the State Councils are going to function. When the norms are laid down and other rules and regulations are finalized one can comment whether the proposed National Medical Commission will be capable of reigning in alleged commercialization of medical education and other malpractices faced by MCI. It is better to retain the identity of national board of examinations.”
