Dr Mitra said he would work with the younger generation to keep the world safe
Dr Arun Mitra, presently Senior VP, Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD), member core committee of the Alliance of Doctors for Ethical Healthcare (ADEH) has been elected as Co-President of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) at York (UK) in the 22nd world congress of the IPPNW – recipient of Nobel Peace Prize 1985.
A 62-member delegation of IDPD led by its President Dr SS Soodan and General Secretary, Dr Shakeel Ur Rahman participated in the congress which had the theme ‘Peace Through Health.’ Delegates from 44 different international organisations affiliated to IPPNW are participating in the congress which will go in till September 7, 2017.
This is for the first time that a doctor from Asia has been elected as the Co-President of the IPPNW. Dr Mitra said he would work with the younger generation to keep the world safe and free of war and violence because future belongs to them. Since it is well known that the women and children are worst sufferers in the event of war and violence therefore it is important to involve them in peace movement.
