Dr Mohamed Rela from Global Hospitals bags recognition
He is among the 20 most innovative paediatric surgeons in the world
Dr Mohamed Rela, Director – Institute of Liver Disease & Transplantation, Global Hospitals Group, has been recognised by ‘Top Masters in Healthcare Administration’ as one of the 20 most innovative paediatric surgeons.
Top Masters in Healthcare Administration is a portal for careers in the medical industry. The recognition comes for Dr Rela’s work in the field of paediatric liver transplants. He is known in India and around the world for successfully performing highly complex surgeries to save the lives of very young children and is considered a world authority on paediatric liver transplantation.
Dr Rela has performed more than 3,000 transplants, including one on a five-day-old baby, earning him an entry into the Guinness Book of Records. Dr Rela also successfully performed a liver transplant on a four-year-old with terminal stage liver cancer. He is also amongst the pioneers of swap liver transplantation for adults. He has performed six liver transplants and a bone marrow transplant on one patient.
A fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Dr Rela had earlier worked at the King’s College Hospital, London. He is also the Chairman of the Paediatric Committee for the International Liver Transplantation Society.
