Healthcare Sabha to kickstart in Hyderabad

The conference will host key opinion leaders from the public health sector who will deliberate upon the pressing issues in India with a view to prepare a road map for Universal Health coverage

The stage is set for a power packed discussion on public health in India. The maiden Healthcare Sabha 2016 – The National Thought Leadership Forum on Public Healthcare is organised by the Indian Express Group and Express Healthcare and is due to commence with a grand ceremony on March 4, 2016 at Hyderabad. The chief guest for the event is Navin Mittal, Secretary Finance & Commissioner and EO, Information and Public Relations Department, Government of Telangana.

For the first time in India, this conference will bring together an interdisciplinary group of professionals working in public healthcare on the same platform to discuss on cohesive, unified and innovative ways to achieve the vision of The National Health Mission which is ‘Universal Access to Equitable, Affordable and Quality Healthcare Services’. The conference is being supported by the National Health Mission, Ministry of Healthcare and Family Welfare, GOI.

The conference will host key opinion leaders from the industry and academicians who will share their knowledge, views and experiences with the delegates.

The conference will open with a keynote address by Dr Henk Bekedam, WHO Representative to India. His talk ‘Investing in health is investing in India’s Growth’ will bring to light the role of government investment on health and the way it is being achieved in different countries across the globe.

Further on, Dr Damodar Bachani, MD, MPHM, Deputy Commissioner (NCD), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India will speak about Emerging threat of lifestyle diseases and their risk factors – Where are we today and the way forward to deal with NCDs as a public health priority.

This will be followed by an interesting presentation by Dr Soumya Swaminathan, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research who will talk about Importance of evidence backed public health strategies.

These presentations will perfectly prep the delegates for a set of enthusiastic round table discussions. The first one moderated by Dr Srinath Reddy, President, PHFI would deliberate on Implementation of Universal Health Coverage/Assurance: 4-point road map. Besides Dr Reddy, the panel will include Dr Henk Bekedam, WHO Representative to India, Dr PV Ramesh IAS, Principal Secretary(R&E) Finance, Government of Andhra Pradesh; Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Chairman, LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad and Mirai Chatterjee, Director, Social Security at Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA)

The next panel discussion will be moderated by Dr Suresh Saravdekar, Ex Assistant Director, & Consultant, Procurement, Ministry of Medical Education and Health, Maharashtra. The panel will focus on best practices in quality procurement management in the public health system.

The panel will include Dr Avinash Supe, Director, Medical Education & Dean, KEM Hospital, Mumbai; Prof AK Gupta, Medical Superintendeent, PGIMER, Chandigarh and a few key delegates.

The rest of the evening will witness thought provoking and informative presentations by Chhitiz Kumar, CEO, Philips Capital & Head–Govt. Affairs, PPP, Philips India who will talk about models of financing public healthcare to aid the masses; and Girish Mehta, CEO, MedGenome India who will discuss Genomics in precision medicine.

The day’s working will conclude with a networking dinner.

Also on March 5, 2016, the event will see a host of panel discussions and a gala awards function presented by Glenmark Pharma.
