A call for countries to continue essential immunisation activities wherever possible during the COVID-19 pandemic
Specific steps should be taken by health authorities in order to protect healthcare workers and communities during essential immunisation activities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, stated experts at the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO).
The recommendation came after a call for countries to continue essential immunisation activities wherever possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, in a bid to prevent the outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. Cuauhtemoc Ruis Matus, Head of the Comprehensive Family Immunization Program at PAHO, said, “Countries must do everything possible to ensure they are not facing multiple epidemics at once.”
