Hearing implants major MED-EL to expand in India
To associate with 500 clinics within a span of five years
Austria-based hearing implants major MED-EL will expand its presence across India by associating with 500 clinics within a span of five years. The initiative is to reach out to more people with its hearing implant systems and innovative products. The Indian subsidiary of MED-EL India, currently works with over 100 clinics in 45 cities across the country.
“We plan to be associated with 500 clinics in India in five years down the line. We are looking at a growth of 30-40 per cent on a year-on-year basis. There are plans to set up a service and repair centre in India to help make after-sales service and support more affordable and time efficient,” said Tejinder Singh, Director, MED-EL India.
Adding that the company plans to close the year with 1,500 implants, Singh said, “MED-EL is trying to increase the presence in tier-II and III cities. The minimum implant cost currently is about Rs 5 lakh for a basic device.”
The company has also decided to set up a training academy in India to build human resource capacity with training and will be able to build centres of excellence through the academy.
Informing that MED-EL has been a principle supplier of cochlear implants and supporting the government sponsored programmes, renowned surgeon Prof JM Hans said, “There are more solutions available than ever before to restore the gift of hearing to the Indian people who suffer from various types of hearing loss. Early implantation of children with hearing loss allows them to develop listening and speaking skills and increase their opportunities for the future.”
Supporting government sponsored cochlear implant programmes, MED -EL is working with states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh among others.
