The Himachal Pradesh government plans to make it compulsory for doctors at all hospitals in the state to prescribe generic drugs to patients. This information was provided by Health Minister Vipin Parmar in Dharamshala today.

While addressing a delegation of the Indian Medical Association at Nanao village, Parmar said that Himachal Pradesh will be the first state to introduce such a Bill. “Doctors have been instructed to prescribe generic drugs and those medicines which are available free of cost at the hospitals. If a doctor prescribes non-generic drugs, he will have to record the reasons for doing so.”

Parmar urged IMA officials to cooperate and to give suggestions to improve the healthcare system.
