IHW Council organises Patient First Summit 2022

The focus of the summit was to discuss support systems essential for creating a patient centric ecosystem, around all aspects of health management and to identify the challenges that lay ahead

The Integrated Health & Wellbeing (IHW) Council organised the Patient First Summit to discuss the need of shifting the health discourse around patients and including them as major decision makers in the process. The focus of the summit was to discuss support systems essential for creating a patient centric ecosystem, around all aspects of health management and to identify the challenges that lay ahead.

The first session of the summit emphasised on patient first strategies to improve engagement & collaboration amongst major stakeholders in the process of health management. 

Emphasising a patient-centric approach Dr Sanjay Agarwal, Professor and Head-Department of Nephrology-AIIMS, New Delhi said, “In a healthcare set up, ultimately the aim is that the patient should get the benefit. Everything has to revolve around the patient”.

Dr Shuchin Bajaj, Founder Director, Ujala Cygnus Healthcare Services focussed on the importance of creating awareness around preventive health care and also discussed the key challenges in implementing a cost effective patient centric approach in healthcare. 

The experts also discussed the challenges including resource limitation, lack of community based services, lack of awareness and related support systems that are means for creating a patient centric ecosystem.

Kamal Narayan, CEO, Integrated Health and Wellbeing (IHW) Council said, “A patient centricity approach can empower patients to be more conscious, caring and contribute to their health & wellbeing. Delivering patient-centric care requires an empathetic approach & proactive participation of the entire healthcare ecosystem.”

The second session of the summit discussed the impact of innovation, digital and new technology in patient services. Raghavendra Prasad, Founder, StepOne and Kunal Kishore Dhawan, Co-Founder, Navia both emphasised on the need of a hybrid model in health care depending on the requirements of the patients and also highlighted on the need to bridge the digital divide and to create awareness around the use of technology amongst all. 

The final session emphasised on the need to create a common platform for all the key stakeholders including patient advocacy groups, as well as government and non-government stakeholders to make healthcare a satisfying experience for patients.
