IRIA to take part in Eighth Annual International Day of Radiology

The theme for the day would be Sports imaging

‘Indian Radiological and Imaging Association’ (IRIA) is proud to take part in the Eighth Annual International Day of Radiology (IDoR), November 8, 2019 — the 124th anniversary of Dr Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen’s discovery of X-ray.

While IDoR only takes place once a year, we know medical imaging makes a world of difference every single day. On the International Day of Radiology, we celebrate the many innovations in radiology research, diagnosis and treatment that have revolutionised modern medicine and saved countless lives. ‘Indian Radiological and Imaging Association’ (IRIA) joins hundreds of medical professionals in 57 countries around the world in celebrating this very special day.

On this occasion, Dr Hemant Patel, National President, Indian Radiological and Imaging Association’ (IRIA) said, “November 8, the day that Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered the existence of X-rays in 1895, was chosen as a day of action and awareness. Sports imaging has been chosen as the main theme of the day in 2019, to highlight the essential role that imaging professionals play in detection, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of sports-related injuries, increasing the quality of care and treatment of patients. Sports imaging has come very far in the past few decades.”

“The International Day of Radiology was launched in 2012 and is a joint initiative of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR). It is an annual event held with the aim of building greater awareness of the value that radiology contributes to safe patient care and improving understanding of the vital role radiologists and radiographers play in the healthcare continuum,” added Dr Patel.

Dr Rajeev Singh, Secretary General, IRIA said, “In order to commemorate the day that Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered the X-rays, the ‘Indian Radiological and Imaging Association’ will organise an academic programme on ‘Sports Imaging and MSK Radiology’, which shall be conducted by IRIA and ICRI on November 8, 2019 from 02.30 pm to 07.00 pm at IRIA House, New Delhi.”

“It is an annual event held with the aim of building greater awareness of the value that radiology contributes to safe patient care, and improving understanding of the vital role radiologists play in the healthcare continuum,” said Dr Amel Antony, Vice President, IRIA.
