Aims to pay special focus on menstrual hygiene on personal hygiene of woman in urban slums
Khushii, a Delhi based NGO, launched a ‘Health Intervention Programme’ focussing on menstrual care, towards Women’s Health and Hygiene, in the urban slum area of Mukundpur recently. Khushii hosted a community health camp where they organised an awareness session on menstrual hygiene, counseling on HIV AIDS, and immunisation of women and children.
Khushii inaugurated the programme with the aim to strengthen and sustain improvements in the health status of urban slum communities by continued provision of sustainable quality integrated primary health services with special focus on menstrual hygiene.
Speaking about the initiative, Ranjit Singh, Additional Secretary Services, Government of India said, “Development does not end at building infrastructures, but also encompasses establishing a healthy future. He also reiterated the importance of involving the NGOs for health system strengthening which would create a healthcare system reflecting an increased efficiency, more equity and good governance”.
“Khushii partners with the Government of India, the private sector and civil society to strengthen the impact, reach, affordability and quality of health services for poor and vulnerable households” added Aanchal Singh, Executive Director Khushii.
Roshini Nath, Governing board member, Khushii said, “Khushii has taken up the initiative of menstrual hygiene management intervention in urban slums”. BK Jha, SDM, North Delhi appreciated various activities that Khushii is doing for the welfare of community members in urban slums and wished for successful programs ahead in partnerships with the govt.
Rashmi Singh, Executive Director, Women and Child Development, Government of India said, “It is important to educate the community on menstrual hygiene and build capacities of frontline health care workers”.
